In this case validating one’s own intelligence. People like to feel smart and the easiest way to achieve that feeling is to make someone else look less smart.

First, if we don’t call him out it normalizes that kind of behavior.
Second, if we’re paying more attention to him than Trump it’s going to hasten their inevitable falling out.
If he did it once, it would have been an extremely low but still non-zero chance that it wasn’t a Nazi salute.
He did it twice though, it’s now firmly a 0% chance of any kind of coincidence, misunderstanding, etc.
Thus far he’s made no comment, not even to deny the Nazi intent.
No apology, no backtrack, no denial, he did it twice.

Yes, they won’t need an atmosphere if there are no people on board but undocking the station side hatch open would cause it to vent the atmosphere and anything not tied down. This could cause the station to spin uncontrollably and potentially do damage to the return craft with the crew on board.
So there must be some sort of way to manipulate the lock from the outside on at least one of the docking ports.
This would also be necessary in an event where they needed to evacuate the station.
