Local causality doesn’t imply unbroken universal causality. In fact, the idea everything is a purely deterministic projection of some initial state is far weirder than the idea that stochastic actions can influence a partially deterministic state.

socsa@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Is Trump’s base racist? Social scientists begin to weigh inEnglish3·1 day agoNobody wakes up in the morning, gets out bed, and enters the world with the intent to be an asshole. Yet there are a ton of assholes in the world.
Everyone does shitty things from time to time. The difference between an asshole and a good person is that the good person realizes when they’ve been shitty and tries to learn something from the experience.

Social scientists begin to weigh inEnglish8·1 day agoThe entire problem is very specifically that they lie about the economy in lockstep, and the media reports it and then idiot centrists are like “oh yeah I guess the economy is bad? People keep talking about it so it must be true.”

These are people who say shit like “my dick is clean why would I wash my hands after I piss?”
I can pretty much guarantee you that there is a fine layer of lead dust on everything they own.
Yeah I guess I just assumed that the process for delivering a normal package would involve going to the mail room or front desk instead of reading the door code from a sticky note publicly posted on the outside of the building. That’s how it has worked at every building I’ve lived for packages which don’t require a signature.
If it doesn’t require a signature then why wouldn’t they just leave it?
dexamphetamine literally lacks the methyl group which gives “meth” it’s name.
It’s because coworker used to buy Adderall in college so they think of it as something cheaters use.
“Oh this? It helps me focus on minding my own fucking business.”

I think this is one of those where there’s some obvious intent behind it but the joke is a bit too high concept (and not really that funny tbh) in relation to the controversy. And I say this as a big community fan - they went for shock value and it didn’t really work because there was no punchline besides “it looks like blackface but technically isn’t blackface.”

That’s the same code I have on my luggage!
Ok, now imagine that you’ve left “signature required” packages like this before and the person reported them stolen or not delivered to collect on the insurance. How do you think that would make you feel as a delivery driver. Would you ever do it again?
You’ve never had to halve a recipe before? Which is easier to do in your head, half of 78.862 milliliters or half of 1/3 cup?
Are Europeans afraid of fractions or something? It’s way quicker to mentally add 9/16 and 3/8 compared to 0.5625 and 0.3750…
Like I get that metric is better but “metric is when no fractions” make 0/1 sense.
Edit - tfw you get ratiod by “9+6 is hard” in a thread about people not understanding basic arithmetic
